Cosmetic Dentistry Q&A

  • There are a number of reasons a patient may want to see a cosmetic dentist, including:

    ✓ Chipped or cracked teeth

    ✓ Tooth discoloration

    ✓ Crooked teeth

    ✓ Missing or decaying teeth

Teeth that are missing, damaged, or decaying may also cause issues with eating, drinking, or even speaking. While cosmetic dentistry does improve the appearance of teeth, it can also improve your overall oral health.

  • Cosmetic dentists perform a variety of procedures, from minor fixes to major surgeries. Dr. Gwilt and the team at Tooth Corps specialize in the following cosmetic procedures:

    ✓ Composite fillings

Also called resin or tooth-colored fillings, composite fillings are durable and resistant to fracturing, while still looking like your natural teeth. Composite fillings can be used on both front and back teeth and can handle the constant stress of chewing.

    ✓ Porcelain veneers

Porcelain veneers are extremely thin shells of tooth-colored porcelain that are cemented over the surface of teeth to correct dental issues. Veneers offer fixes for worn tooth enamel, uneven tooth alignment or spacing, tooth discoloration, and chips or cracks.

Since veneers leave patients with a brilliant smile that boasts aligned, sparkling teeth, they’re often considered a cosmetic procedure. However, veneers offer protection for the natural teeth they cover, and they can prevent further expensive dental procedures.

    ✓ Porcelain crowns

A porcelain crown is a custom-made cap or crown that is bonded to the tooth. It fits over the tooth and restores damaged or chipped teeth to their natural size, shape, and purpose. Porcelain crowns are made with tooth-colored porcelain to blend in seamlessly with your surrounding teeth, while still maintaining strength and durability.

    ✓ Fixed bridges

A bridge is a custom-made replacement that fills in the spot where one or more teeth are missing. A fixed bridge is cemented into place by your dental provider, using the existing teeth as an anchor. Fixed bridges feel much more stable and natural than a standard bridge.

Beyond just replacing missing teeth, a bridge permanently restores your bite and helps to retain the natural shape of your face. A bridge can prevent tooth decay, shifting, and facial collapse, restoring your overall health and appearance.

    ✓ Teeth whitening

As we age, our teeth can become discolored, a process that is hastened when we consume certain drinks, like red wine or coffee. Among many over-the-counter whitening options, professional teeth whitening offers faster, more consistent results, with dramatic improvements in the brightness of your smile.

According to a survey conducted by the American Dental Association in 2015, 33% of young people and 23% of adults are embarrassed by their smiles. If this is you, call or schedule an appointment online with Tooth Corps today to give yourself the gift of a smile you love to share.
